Collecting Butterflies

Collections
A huge drive is made by SABBA to offer collectors who wish to donate their collections to museums, the chance to house their collections in a safe and secure BUTTERFLY MUSEUM in Ramsgate. No individual collection will be incorporated into any one or singular collection. The value of each collection is in the history of that collection, offering information that is unique  to its researched areas by the collector. Too many valuable butterfly specimens have just vanished or been unwillingly destroyed through neglect and carelessness. All butterfly collections held by individual collectors are valuable and form part of our South African heritage. Don't let your collection just vanish and be lost forever. Email us to make arrangements for the security and preservation of your collection. collections@sabba.co.za.

Research
Collectors all over South Africa, are welcome to join our researches in the field to collect specimens for their individual collections only as members of SABBA. Field trips are arranged each month of the year to various destinations throughout South Africa. Some collectors like Deryck E Whiteley, Earnest Pringle, Ivor Migdol (deceased), Dr Renier Terblanche, Dr David Edge, David A Swanepoel (deceased), Clive Quickleberg, Steve Collins, Andries Horn and Earle Whiteley have accompanied us on many of our field excursions. Join us on some of our excursions. Email us at collections@sabba.co.za. Research is presently being done on Melantis leads helena (see specimens below) and your help is require to provide any variation, gynandromorphy or albinisms in specimen that you do not see in the specimens listed bellow. Email us at collections@sabba.co.za and send us a pic.
